CrossFit is taking the fitness industry by storm

CrossFit is a fitness program based on a circuit system, which aims to develop strength, muscle and improve physical condition. It is a discipline based on functional movements executed at high intensity.

CrossFit programs are based on the best elements from a wide variety of sports and training methods. They are combined into a workout that develops all 10 areas of fitness:

  • Cardiovascular

  • Perseverance

  • Strength

  • Flexibility

  • Power

  • Speed

  • Coordinate

  • Agility

  • Equilibrium

  • Accuracy

The CrossFit philosophy is to increase the performance in all of those areas without sacrificing any of them.

The program brings together numerous movements from gymnastics, athletics and weightlifting that mix together in a high intensity body booster workout.

How do CrossFit exercises look like?

You should be able to find numerous tutorials and WOD’s online but the basics include: push-ups, squats, running, pull-ups, jumps and lunges.

You will more than likely have to do Olympic lifts (careful not to push it with the weights during the lifts), as well as numerous gymnastics routines. The exercises, however, are designed to be functional, the idea is to boost your everyday movements to the next level.

Regardless of your current form, CrossFit is bound to have a positive impact on your body. It will help you lose weight while helping you get a shredded look. Many people who focus on building muscle mass have shifted their focus towards this workout routine as it delivers a rather natural look and development, rather than the artificially pumped effect.

Of course, make sure that before engaging in CrossFit you are physically capable of carrying out the exercises by consulting your doctor or physician.

CrossFit should not be done without the presence of a professional trainer as it will place tremendous stress on the ligaments and joints in general.
