Dukan Diet is probably on of the most drastic diets out there

The Dukan Diet is a protein based diet plan made by French doctor Pierre Dukan. After a 30 years campaign, in 2000 dr. Dukan released his book which explained the Dukan Diet which sold more than 7 million copies worldwide.

What makes this diet appealing is the drastic restrictive diet corroborated with a programmed lifestyle in order to block regaining fat after the diet has ended.

How did he come up with the idea?

When dr. Dukan came across his first case of obesity while working as a practitioner in Paris he thought of a way to improve the current cure (they thought at the time that obesity could be cured by eating low calorie and small sized meals).

So from 1975 on he started developing a 4 phase meal plan designed to keep the lost pounds off even after the diet had ended. These phases include stabilization as well as consolidation. 20 years later the research paid off, as he published his Je ne sais pas maigrir which became a best seller really fast.

How does the Dukan Diet work?

This died revolves around the consumption of up to 100 foods during 4 very restrictive phases: attack, cruise, consolidation and stabilization.

Phase 1 – Attack

The consumer is likely to lose 2-3 kilograms in 2-7 days by forcing a metabolic boost. You are allowed to eat as much as you want from a list of 68 foods that are rich in protein.

Phase 2 – Cruise

During this phase, the dieters are allowed to add 28 specific vegetables. The cruise phase can be adapted to each individual user in order to program a specific amount of lost weight for the following period. The efficiency rate for this phase is usually 1 kg/week.

Phase 3 – Consolidation

This phase is specifically designed to prevent the accumulation of future weight. During consolidation, certain bread types, fruits, cheese as well as starchy foods are accepted. Two celebratory meals/week are also permitted.

Phase 4 – Stabilization

The final phase has a set of rules that the dieter has to keep in order to remain at his desired weight. This includes protein day every week as well as eating oat bran daily. Another key element is that you have to denounce the elevator and take the stairs.
